Characters:
THANDI: We are introduced to Thandi one month after the death of her new born baby. Her daily routine is based upon her emotional response to her loss. It is a time of grieving for Thandi, and in order to lessen the pain she has a baby doll which she treats as her new born. But the doll cannot replace her baby and Thandi has to face the reality that the doll is not real. She makes a decision which will change the course of her life.
Thandi acting age 20-30. Thandi is a young Black woman aged 25. She comes from a working class background and lives in London. Before she was pregnant she worked as an admin assistant and dreamt of studying at college. After the death of her baby her boyfriend left her blaming Thandi for the death and she now lives in a bedsit with her baby doll.
GLORIA: Gloria lives next door to Thandi. She has lived in the same home for 25 years and is a proud working class woman. Now aged 55 she has seen much in her life and is renowned for her caring nature. She is the eyes and ears of the estate. Living in a flat with paper thin walls she feels she knows what is going on for Thandi. But it is Gloria's discovery that all is not what it seems that pushes Thandi to make her life changing decision.
Gloria acting age 50-60. Gloria has mentally taken Thandi under her wing. She is the type of neighbour who cooks dishes for others when she feels they are in need of care. Not one to take no for an answer she is also a formidable force. Not easily shocked she at first finds Thandi's secret overwhelming. Yet Gloria also tries to find a way to help Thandi.
Casting starts Saturday May 5th.
Filming will start at the end of May for six days. Four days on set, two days on location.
This is a student production and it is a voluntary role.
